ANN E. EVANKO

 

 

President Chapter President, is a partner in the law firm of Hurwitz & Fine, PC, which she joined in 1980.  She concentrates her practice in Business/Corporate Law, with an emphasis in Employment Law, commercial and insolvency matters. She heads the firm’s Employment Law practice.

 

She has been an active member of WBASNY for many years, and has  served as Vice President, Treasurer, Chair of the Finance Committee, and a member of its Board of Directors.

 

Ms. Evanko serves on the Board of Directors of the Everywoman Opportunity Center, Inc. and was a recipient of the center’s Award of Excellence in 1998 for providing a role model for women in Western New York through outstanding personal accomplishment, career achievement and community commitment. Everywoman Opportunity Center, Inc. is a not‑for‑profit group dedicated to helping women achieve self‑sufficiency through a comprehensive approach to career and life planning.

 

In 2000, Ms. Evanko received the Committee on Women in Courts Award from the Eighth Judicial District in recognition of her pioneering achievement, outstanding leadership, and impact on the legal profession. She is the 1996 recipient of the Achievement Award and the 1990 recipient of the Marilyn Menge Award in recognition of her service and commitment to the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York. Ms. Evanko was also awarded The National Conference’s Sisterhood/Brotherhood Award for outstanding leadership and contributions to the legal community.

 


 

Ms. Evanko served four consecutive terms as President of the Board of Directors of the YWCA of Western New York, and is past Chair of the Finance Committee and Public Policy Committee. She was a voting delegate to the 1994 National Convention of the YWCA. Ms. Evanko was awarded with the YWCA 1999 Outstanding Achievement Award which recognizes women in Western New York who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in their professional and community endeavors. She is also a recipient of the 1995 YMCA Toast to Buffalo, which honors contributions to the Buffalo community. Under her leadership, the Public Policy Committee received the 1991 Volunteer of the Year Award for its work with the Institute of Public Leadership.

 

Ms. Evanko chaired the Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s Small Business Council, created and chaired the Small Business Council’s Advocacy Center, now called the Business Issues Forum.  She is a member of the New York State and Erie County Bar Associations.  She is admitted to practice in the State of New York, United States District Court and United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of New York, and the United States Supreme Court.

 

Ms. Evanko is a frequent lecturer and panelist on issues of employment discrimination, business law, and issues affecting women.
