DEBORAH J. MUHLBAUER, Past Chapter President, is a partner with the firm of Bluestein & Muhlbauer, P.C., where she limits her practice exclusively to the areas of federal and state tax practice and procedure and estate planning. She is a member of the Erie County Bar Association’s Tax Committee and is a member of the Planning Committee for the Institute on Taxation held annually in the City of Buffalo. Ms. Muhlbauer frequently lectures and writes on a variety of topics related to federal and state tax laws and practice. Ms. Muhlbauer is also an adjunct professor of tax practice and procedure at the University at Buffalo Law School. She has served as President, Treasurer, and State Director of the Western New York Chapter of the WBASNY, and a past Co-chair of the Chapter’s Work Related Issues Committee. Ms. Muhlbauer is also a past Chair of the Subcommittee on Women in the Profession of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Women in the Law. Ms. Muhlbauer is admitted to practice in the State of New York and the State of Illinois. She is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, the Bankruptcy Court, and the Western District Court for the State of New York. Ms. Muhlbauer received her juris doctor from the University at Buffalo Law School in May of 1991. As a law student she was the 1990 recipient of the Best Brief award in the Jessup International Moot Court Competition. Ms. Muhlbauer was also a class representative to the Student Bar Association. She received a Bachelor of Arts in History, summa cum laude, from the State of New York College at Buffalo in May of 1988, completing the requirements for this degree in three years. As an undergraduate she was selected for membership in Phi Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society for History. Ms. Muhlbauer was also awarded the David Vernon Bullough Award in History for overall academic excellence.
