Women's Bar Association of the State of New York

KELLY J. PHILIPS, Immediate Past President, is an associate with The Sugarman Law Firm, where she focuses on defending premises liability, motor vehicle negligence and municipal tort liability claims. Ms. Philips has been with Sugarman’s Buffalo office since 2002.

 

Ms. Philips obtained her undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1997, majoring in both English and Psychology, cum laude. She obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University at Buffalo Law School in 2000, with an academic concentration in International Law. After her first year of law school, Ms. Philips spent a summer in Rome, Italy, where she studied European Union Law, International Business Transactions and International Arbitration, through Temple University. While at law school, Ms. Philips served on the Buffalo Moot Court Board, both as a board member and as Assistant to the Vice President. She was also elected to The Order of Barristers.

 

Ms. Philips continues to be involved with UB Law, serving as a student mentor, and moot court judge for the constitutional and tax law competitions.

 

During her time with the WNY Chapter, Ms. Philips has served as a Local Director, State Director, President-Elect and she has chaired the chapter’s Judiciary and Legislative Committees. Ms. Philips continues to serve as a state wide Co-Chair of the WBASNY Fundraising Committee.
